Bad River Harm Reduction has provided people who use drugs in northern Wisconsin with harm reduction services since 2015, adding a statewide mail order service in December, 2022. Throughout that time, we have been engaged in advocacy to improve care and services for people who use drugs, carefully balancing the need to protect the identities of people we serve and the urgency of policy change driven by their perspectives.
Throughout its existence, volunteers and staff of Bad River Harm Reduction have led efforts to improve community health. Successful initiatives include widespread adoption of naloxone and overdose reversal as a positive response to the increasing number of overdoses among American Indian/Alaska Natives and safe injection practices to reduce community transmission of HIV and Hepatitis C.
Today, Bad River Harm Reduction is a nationally-recognized leader in harm reduction technical assistance. Bad River staff and community members are frequently invited to present on its work at convenings focused on HIV, harm reduction, substance use treatment, stigma awareness and reduction and other related topics.
